Michael Vick Dogs Get a Second Chance at Love and Life: Where Are They Now?

Believe in miracles and good deeds? With Michael Vick getting a second chance, we thought we'd check in and see how his "Bad Newz Kennel" Pit Bulls are doing.

Time to read about the good news. Best Friends' animal trainer John Garcia, who was recently on the Larry King Live show with Georgia, one of the Vick dogs, talked about the dogs and their progress through rehabilitation. "They're great dogs. We're setting them up for success," he says.

Best Friends Animal Society, the largest no kill animal sanctuary in the USA, took twenty two of the Pit Bulls in January of 2008, when other groups called for their destruction and said they could not be rehabilitated. Garcia says all but two of the Pit Bulls will be sent to families eventually. Halle was recently adopted and Handsome Dan just went to a foster home. Only Meryl and Lucas will stay at Best Friends for the rest of their lives - and that's due to court orders, Garcia says, more than anything else because they were prize fighters.

Now, the dogs are a different kind of prize. He says:

"Georgia had experienced fighting her whole life. Now, she's going around meeting people all over with us in places like the Beverly Hills Hilton. We hope that sends a very powerful message. She's gone from rags to riches. These dogs were the victims."

Best Friends Animal Society has done an incredible job of helping these victimized animals and leading them to living rehabilitated lives. They were able to get a second chance at being happy, healthy dogs.

However, the true victory goes to these amazing dogs who rose above the pain and learned how to love and trust again.
